Bike paths, cycling lanes, and protected bike lanes are becoming more and more common in the country, but a handful of states are still trying to decide whether to let the sport thrive.

Bike commuting in the United States is a little more advanced than in most other industrialized nations, and the trend is expected to grow.

The U.K. and France have the largest populations and the highest rates of cycling in Europe, according to a study by the British Cycling Foundation.
